A native of Taipei, Taiwan, violinist, violist, and pianist Dr. Yi-Chun Lin has performed with orchestras around the world, such as the Texas Music Festival Orchestra, the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra in Taiwan, and the Akademische Orchester at the Gewanhaus concert hall in Leipzig. She is currently the viola principal at the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, the artistic and executive director at the Curious Music Collective, and a violin professor at Augustana University. She has always been a passionate chamber musician. Along with her various chamber ensembles in the past, she has performed on WQXR radio station in New York, won the bronze medal at Fischoff competition, and received chamber music residency from various programs, such as the Banff Music Festival. Dr. Lin received a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in violin performance from the Manhattan School of Music and the Mannes College in New York. She also received her doctorate from the University of Michigan. Violinists Lucie Robert and Aaron Berofsky were mentors on her musical journey. Among the places that inspired her, Bang on a Can summer festival of 2018 holds one of the most special memories. With a curious mind, she constantly looks for new artistic dimensions and possibilities through her musical endeavors.
